Too often do people forget how easy it is to just talk to Jesus, and how he wants us to talk to him… even about the little things.

    Make yourself comfortable…
Take a deep breath and relax…
You are going on a journey… back in time… 2000 years or so ago… the year is 30AD… close your eyes…

Take a deep breath and relax…

You’re in Jericho… (where Joshua and his men marched round the city walls – and they came tumbling down… where Zacchaeus had climbed the tree… where Jesus had passed thru’ ) Jericho is one of the oldest cities in the world… in your imagination… you are there… as you are now… in your twentieth century dress… around you are many others – they’re in first century dress – traders and travellers, tax collectors, Pharisees… but there’s one man who catches your attention… one poor man… you go to speak to him… he doesn’t seem to notice you… he’s blind and he’s begging… you speak with him. He tells you about himself… his name is Bartimaeus – he tells you about his family… his father Timaeus, he speaks openly of his problems… about his blindness… how he wasn’t able to continue the family business… he tells of his hopes and his fears for himself, for his family, for the world. And he asks about you… and you tell this blind beggar… you tell him your name, you tell him about your family… your hopes and your fears… you tell him about the things you have been doing this past week… the ups and downs … you tell him about your plans for next week… you tell him everything…
    (pause)

As you talk you are aware of a large crowd approaching… folk are muttering that it’s Jesus… Jesus from Nazareth… and they’re saying “What’s he doing down in Jericho?” But you know… you know that it is Jesus… he’s passing through Jericho on his way to Jerusalem… on the way to Jerusalem to die…

It is Jesus… and he’s coming across… he’ll be coming over to speak to poor blind Bartimaeus. One of the disciples comes close and says: “Cheer up – on your feet – He’s calling you” – and then you realise… that this isn’t the story you’ve heard before… he isn’t calling Bartimeaus – he’s calling you!

Yes it’s you Jesus wants to speak to… and so you jump to your feet and go to Jesus…

What do you want me to do for you? He asks

What do you want me to do for you?

    And you tell him…
    Tell him everything…
Tell him everything… just the way you told the blind beggar…

Tell Jesus… about the ups and downs… the good things… and the things that worry and upset… tell him of your plans for next week, next month, next year… and beyond…

    (long pause)

Jesus has listened to your story… he turns to Bartimeaus… and you continue on your journey…

As you leave Jericho, become aware your surroundings… become aware of your journey with Christ today… know that the Jesus you met in history… is the Christ of your faith today…

Again … Hear him say… What do you want me to do for you…
